چکیده
Background. The margin status is an important prognosticator for the survival of patients with tongue cancer. Although a positive margin is associated with a poor prognosis, those with clear margins do not always have good clinical outcomes. Methods. We investigated the margin status, pattern of tumor invasion (POI), and tumor satellite distance (TSD) in 119 freshly treated tongue cancers and assessed their association with the characteristics and clinical outcomes. Results. A close or clear margin and POI were not associated with overall survival. Tumor satellites occurred in 92% of tumors and were significantly associated with betel nut exposure. Patients with TSD 0.5 mm had significantly better overall survival. Patients with TSD >0.5 mm had a higher incidence of local recurrence, shorter intervals to neck recurrence, and a higher propensity to contralateral or bilateral cervical nodal me-

متن کاملTongue Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Clinical Study
Background and Objectives: Squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue (SCCOT) is the most common malignant neoplasm in oral cavity. At the time of the diagnosis of SCCOT regional metastases with a high mortality rate are common, which is due to the extensive lymphatic system drainage of the tongue. Although the level of healthcare has significantly improved, the survival rate is still low with an...
متن کاملCoexistence of Granular Cell Tumor with Squamous Cell Carcinoma on the Tongue: A Case Report
Introduction: Granular cell tumors (GCTs) are rare and mostly benign soft tissue tumors. Though they have been reported in all parts of body, they are generally located in the head and neck region, especially on the tongue. Some malign forms exist, but these have been rarely reported. Granular cell tumors have a neural origin and, in immunohistochemical evaluations, they express S-100 and neuro...
متن کاملOverexpression of High-Mobility Motor Box 1 in the Blood and Tissues of Patients with Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Introduction: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is one of the most common cancers in the world. Extra- and intra-cellular high-mobility motor box 1 (HMGB1) proteins are invovled in the pathogenesis and prognosis of cancer. Regarding this, the present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the expression of HMGB1 protein and mRNA levels in the blood, tumor tissue, and mar...
متن کاملRhabdomyosarcoma: Nose Presenting As Second Primary with Carcinoma Tongue
Introduction Presence of two primary malignancies is rare and occurs in 3-5% of the cancer patients. As per our extensive internet research, this is the only reported case of a synchronous sino-nasal embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma with squamous cell carcinoma-tongue. The case report is important because of the rare diagnosis and the challenge we faced in the diagnosis and treatment of the pat...
